The project aims to empower the people in Greater Lusaka Region, in the Copperbeld Region and in the Southern Region with essential media literacy skills. The project includes an in-depth training of multipliers which will become our future community leaders and teachers, as well as establish local media literacy hubs.
Together with our local partner organisation, the Free Press Initiative under the leadership of the renowned journalist and media lawyer Joan Chirwa (photo below), we will implement the project from 2024 to 2026.
Our sources of information have become diverse. News, facts, speculations, opinions and lies are part of our media diet. How can we make sense of the information that we consume?
Through the project, FPI and Interlink Academy, seek to help citizens in Zambia with knowledge and skills to navigate and act responsibly within the media world.
The core aim of the project is to equip information users to:
- Access credible sources
- Competently use social media
- Participate in decision-making
- Protect their data
- Stop Cyber-bullying
The first cohort of 12 Community MIL Trainers and Organisers was trained in August 2024. They learnt and practised new teaching methods and got input from journalists like Joseph Mwenda from News Diggers.
